Abstract

In this study a practice was employed as a means of cooperative group work and the success of the students was evaluated in the context of the group work practice. In the scope of the study, four study groups were formed; the first groups (1, 2 and 3) were the experiment groups and the fourth was the control group. Each group consisted of five students. The experimental groups were trained using cooperative group work while the control group was trained in traditional ways without resorting to any specific methods. The researcher developed two sample music pieces for the purpose of the study; the first piece was used during the test of equivalence and the second piece was used in the practice stage. The five students who practiced utilizing the means of cooperative group work distributed work among each other and followed each other’s training and performance processes. During these processes they strove to contribute to each other’s learning by observing the shortcomings of each other. The data collected as a result of the study were evaluated in order to compare the two groups and it was observed that the performances of the members of the experiment groups were more successful than that of the control group members.
