In this mixed methods study, the effect of discourse analysis method, on the skills of Turkish lessons as critical reading, comprehension and analysis, and language and cultural awareness has been investigated. Participants were consisted of 20 students in control and 22 students in treatment group out of 8th graders. Opinion forms and an achievement test were used as data collection tools. Validity and reliability tests were completed and the test was found reliable with the cronbach alpha value of 0.82. Test results were analysed by t-test. Besides, voice recordings were taken by interviewing 6 randomly selected participants. In addition to content and descriptive analysis, descriptive statistics were used to analyze data obtained from opinion forms. As a result of these analyses and observations, it was found that discourse analysis method develops above-mentioned skills; helps developing language and cultural awareness and understanding socio-cultural structure by offering a deep reading and comprehension opportunities.
