Abstract

In this study adaptation of Mountain Shadows Phonological Awareness Scale into Turkish and its validity and reliability study are done. This study is conducted with 150 children (72 female and 78 male) who are having preschool education in 2010-2011 academic year. MS-PAS is designed to evaluate both preschool children and first year primary school children’s phonological awareness and it is a study to classify sounds. In validity study factor analysis, varimax rotation technique, total item correlations, differences between top and bottom %27; for reliability study KR-20 were used . KR-20 coefficient for reliability is .96. At the end of analyses it is decided that Mountain Shadows phonological Awareness Scale is a valid and reliable assessment instrument that can be used to assess 6 year old children’s phonological awareness.
