Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the "Reading and Writing Readiness Program" on the print awareness of the children who study in kindergarten. Control group with pretest – posttest model in experimental design was used in the study. Study group was selected using random sampling method among the kindergarten students who are studying in the primary schools in Ankara province center in 2009-2010 Spring Term of the academic year. Among the students of Mecidiye Primary School in Keçiören, 15 students were experimental, 15 students were control group students. In the study, “Control List for the Evaluation of the Print Awareness of Pre-School Children” and “Personal Information Form” were used as data collection tools. As the conclusion of the study, it was found that “Reading and Writing Readiness Program” has been effective on print awareness.
